A fire alarm relay module gives the control panel a set of dry contacts it can operate when a condition occurs. It is the standard way to make the fire alarm system control equipment that is not itself part of the fire alarm system. Typical uses are elevator recall and shunt trip, HVAC fan shutdown and damper control, door holder release, magnetic lock release on egress doors, and signalling to access control, building automation or a central station.
The main types:
- Addressable relay modules that take a point on the SLC and are activated by panel programming
- Conventional and multi-voltage relays driven from a notification circuit or auxiliary power
- Control modules that switch a supervised notification circuit rather than a dry contact
- Encapsulated, DIN rail and enclosure mounted relays, and relay detector bases
Addressable modules are protocol specific and have to match the panel family.
