Honeywell's HPF-PS6 (6 A) and HPF-PS10 (10 A) are the current replacements. Honeywell's data sheets call the HPF-PS Series a direct replacement for the Notifier PSE and FCPS Series, for the Silent Knight 5495 and 5499, and for the Honeywell HPF24S6/8 and HPFF8.
The chain has two steps for Notifier: a December 2020 Notifier bulletin replaced the FCPS-24S6 and FCPS-24S8 with the PSE-6 and PSE-10, and the PSE Series was in turn replaced by the HPF-PS Series. The HPF-PS data sheets now mark the PSE listings as discontinued.
Which current power supply replaces each discontinued one?
| Legacy model | Manufacturer-stated replacement | Where it is stated |
|---|---|---|
| Notifier FCPS-24S6, FCPS-24S6R (6 A, 120 VAC) | PSE-6 / PSE-6R, now HPF-PS6 | Notifier bulletin, Dec 2020; DN-61092:D |
| Notifier FCPS-24S6E (6 A, 240 VAC) | PSE-6E, now HPF-PS6E | Same |
| Notifier FCPS-24S8, FCPS-24S8R (8 A, 120 VAC) | PSE-10 / PSE-10R, now HPF-PS10 (see note) | Same |
| Notifier FCPS-24S8E (8 A, 240 VAC) | PSE-10E, now HPF-PS10E | Same |
| Notifier PSE-6, PSE-6R, PSE-6E | HPF-PS6 (red), HPF-PS6B (black), HPF-PS6E (240 VAC) | DN-61092:D |
| Notifier PSE-10, PSE-10R, PSE-10E | HPF-PS10 (red), HPF-PS10B (black), HPF-PS10E (240 VAC) | DN-61092:D |

| Honeywell HPF24S6, HPF602ULADA | HPF-PS6 | Notifier bulletin, Dec 2020; DH-61094:D |
| Honeywell HPF24S8, HPF902ULADA | HPF-PS10 | Same |
| Honeywell HPFF8 | HPF-PS10B | Same |
| Fire-Lite FL-PS and FCPS Series | HPF-PS6, HPF-PS10 | DF-61093:D |
| ZNAC-4 Class A option module | ZNAC-PS | Notifier bulletin, Dec 2020 |
Note on the FCPS-24S8. The December 2020 bulletin maps the FCPS-24S8E to the PSE-10E and the FCPS-24S8R to the PSE-10R. On the plain FCPS-24S8 line it prints "PSE-6R", which looks like a typing error since that would replace an 8 A supply with a 6 A one. Size the replacement to your load: the 10 A model covers an 8 A supply's rating.
Note on the Silent Knight 5495. The Silent Knight data sheet names the 5495 and 5499 together and does not say which HPF-PS model matches which. The 5495 manual rates that unit at 6 A total, the same as the HPF-PS6. The 5496 is a separate Silent Knight power module and is not the replacement the data sheet names.
Color codes changed between generations. In the PSE line the plain number was black and the R suffix red. In the HPF-PS line the plain number is red and the B suffix is black.
HPF-PS6 vs HPF-PS10: what are the differences?
| Specification | HPF-PS6 | HPF-PS10 |
|---|---|---|
| Total continuous output | 6.0 A | 10.0 A |
| Configurable output circuits | Up to 5 | Up to 7 |
| Isolated input/control circuits | 2 | 3 |
| Maximum per circuit | 3 A | 3 A |
| Regulated rating per output | TB8-TB9: 1 A; TB10-TB12: 0.3 A | TB8-TB11: 1.5 A; TB12-TB14: 0.3 A |
| Special application rating per output | 3 A | 3 A |
| AC input (120 VAC models) | 5.0 A maximum | 6.2 A maximum |
| Battery charger | 27.6 VDC float, 1.5 A maximum; 18 AH inside the cabinet, up to 33 AH in an external cabinet | |
| Cabinet | 20.0 x 14.5 x 3.5 in., locking steel, holds two 7 AH or 18 AH batteries | |
| Standards | UL 864 10th Edition (NAC expander mode), UL 1481 | |
Each output can be set as a NAC, as resettable or non-resettable 24 V auxiliary power, or as door holder power. Class A wiring needs the ZNAC-PS card, which converts the outputs without giving any up. Configuration is by onboard DIP switches. Note the two ratings: 3 A per output is the special application rating, and the regulated rating per output is lower.
Will the replacement trigger from my existing panel and keep my strobes in sync?
The data sheet says the HPF-PS works with any UL 864 panel that uses an industry-standard reverse-polarity notification circuit, and may be connected to any 12 or 24 volt panel or run standalone. The trigger inputs accept 9 to 32 VDC.
For synchronization, the HPF-PS is UL listed with System Sensor, Wheelock, Gentex and AMSECO appliances. Sync can be driven from the panel's NAC or remote sync output, from a cascaded power supply, or from a control module mounted in the cabinet. Up to four supplies can be cascaded.
Two points to check when the old unit is a Silent Knight 5495:
- The 5495 manual lists built-in sync for AMSECO, Faraday, Gentex, System Sensor and Wheelock. Faraday is not on the HPF-PS list, so a 5495 driving synchronized Faraday appliances needs a closer look.
- The 5495 has two inputs and four notification outputs plus one auxiliary output. The HPF-PS6 has two inputs and five configurable outputs, so the circuit count carries over. Configure the new unit from the HPF-PS manual; do not copy the old switch settings.
End-of-line supervision is flexible: the HPF-PS accepts end-of-line values from 2 kΩ to 27 kΩ, and the launch bulletin describes this as resistance matching. Follow the installation manual for the reference procedure.
Does it fit the old cabinet and batteries?
Treat it as a cabinet replacement. The HPF-PS is sold as a self-contained supply in its own locking cabinet, 20.0 x 14.5 x 3.5 inches, with ten double knockouts and a removable door. The bulletin describes the old FCPS-24S6 and FCPS-24S8 as a main circuit board with transformers and instructions, while the replacement is described as a supply in a lockable metal enclosure. None of the documents we read describes fitting an HPF-PS board into an FCPS, PSE or 5495 enclosure.
Batteries can stay if they are healthy lead-acid units of a size the new cabinet and charger support: two 7 AH or 18 AH inside, or up to 33 AH in a separate cabinet. Redo the standby calculation with the new supply's figures.
How do Altronix AL600 / AL802 and Edwards BPS6A / BPS10A compare?
They are different product lines with their own listings, and the Honeywell documents above do not name them as replacements for FCPS, PSE or 5495 supplies. The store carries the Altronix AL802ULADA and the Edwards BPS10A; check each one's sync protocols and panel compatibility in its own manufacturer documents before substituting it.
What should I order?
For a 6 A unit (FCPS-24S6, PSE-6, 5495, HPF24S6), order the HPF-PS6 in red or the HPF-PS6B in black. For an 8 A or 10 A unit (FCPS-24S8, PSE-10, HPF24S8, HPFF8), order the HPF-PS10 or HPF-PS10B. Add a ZNAC-PS for Class A circuits. See all fire alarm power supplies, or request a quote for 240 VAC models and project quantities.
Compatibility must be confirmed against the control panel's listing documents, and the installation must follow NFPA 72 and the local AHJ.
