5496 (P/N 005496) — intelligent 6 amp notification power module that adds its own AC feed, battery charger and standby battery to a Silent Knight addressable fire alarm system.
The 5496 Intelligent Power Module provides additional power and the notification circuits used by a Silent Knight addressable FACP, and can power all Silent Knight compatible notification appliances and auxiliary power modules. It has four output circuits, each configurable as a notification appliance circuit or as auxiliary power — constant, resettable or door holder. The module is optically isolated, providing ground loop isolation and transient protection, and it is capable of performing single or dual interlocking operations for pre-action and deluge releasing systems. Its switch mode power supply design reduces damaging heat and manages power up to 50% more efficiently than linear mode supplies. Built-in synchronization eliminates the need for separate sync modules when using AMSECO, Faraday, Gentex, System Sensor or Wheelock appliances, and ANSI cadence pattern output is built in.
The 5496 ships as a complete assembly: a cabinet with all hardware assembled, two keys for the front door, ten 4.7k ohm end-of-line resistors, and a battery wiring harness with a jumper to wire batteries in series. Standby batteries themselves are not included.

Installation notes

3 A per circuit, 6 A total — not 12 A: all four outputs are rated 3.0 A each, but the module's total is 6.0 A. Honeywell states plainly that the total alarm current you calculate, including current for the panel itself, must not exceed 6.0 A. Loading all four circuits to their individual 3 A rating is not permitted.

Class A costs you circuits: the four terminals yield either four Class B circuits, two Class A circuits, or a mixed configuration of one Class A and two Class B. Fix the survivability class before laying out notification zones.

End-of-line resistors — the manual contradicts itself: the hardware list states the 5496 ships with ten 4.7k ohm end-of-line resistors, while the current-draw section notes that for UL installations the 4.7k ohm end-of-line resistor is "ordered separately." Verify what is in the carton before scheduling the trim-out.

Battery size versus cabinet size: the charger handles 7.0 to 35.0 AH, but larger batteries may not fit the 5496 cabinet. Honeywell directs installers to the RBB Remote Battery Box, which holds batteries up to 35 AH, when the required battery is too large for the 5496 enclosure.

AC and battery wiring are non-power-limited: every circuit on the board is supervised and power-limited except the battery and AC power connections, which are supervised and non-power-limited — keep that wiring separated accordingly.

No separate sync module needed: configuration options eliminate the need for synchronization modules with AMSECO, Faraday, Gentex, System Sensor or Wheelock synchronization appliances.

Protect from moisture: do not mount directly on exterior or below-grade masonry walls (condensation), near humidity-generating equipment, or where plumbing or sprinkler inspection-port splash can reach it. Water entering through top-mounted conduit is a common failure and water damage is not covered under warranty.

Releasing service: the module supports single or dual interlocking operations for pre-action and deluge releasing systems — refer to the FACP installation manual for the interlock configuration.
