A monitor module is the addressable interface that lets a dry contact device appear on an SLC loop as its own point. Anything that opens or closes a contact - a waterflow or tamper switch on a sprinkler riser, a supervisory or pressure switch, a duct detector, a conventional initiating circuit left over from an earlier system - is brought into an addressable panel through a monitor module rather than being landed on the panel directly.
The usual variants:
- Standard monitor modules in back box or DIN mount form
- Mini monitor modules small enough to fit in the back box behind the contact being monitored
- Dual and multi-input modules that supervise more than one point
- Zone interface modules that supervise a whole conventional initiating circuit as a single address
- Isolator modules and combination monitor and control modules
Each manufacturer's SLC protocol is its own, so a fire alarm module has to come from the panel's family.
