System Sensor P2RLED L-Series LED wall horn strobe, red

System Sensor's L-Series with LED models replace the xenon L-Series one for one: P2RL becomes P2RLED, P2WL becomes P2WLED, PC2RL and PC2WL become PC2RLED and PC2WLED, SRL and SWL become SRLED and SWLED, and SCRL and SCWL become SCRLED and SCWLED. That mapping comes from Honeywell's own Audible Visible Notification Cross-Reference Guide (AVFL88909, November 2023).

The swap is not purely mechanical. The LED appliances draw less current, run only on regulated 24 VDC, and the outdoor versions need a new back box. The details below come from the System Sensor datasheets and installation manuals listed under Sources.

Which L-Series LED part number replaces each xenon model?

Honeywell's cross-reference guide lists these indoor replacements. The LED model keeps the same color, marking and mounting position as the xenon model it replaces.

Speaker strobes (SPSWL, SPSRL, SPSCWL, SPSCRL). The November 2023 guide predates the LED speaker strobes and still shows the xenon SPSWL family as current. System Sensor's 2024 speaker strobe datasheet (AVDS-62174) lists the LED line as SPSWLED and SPSRLED for walls and SPSCWLED and SPSCRLED for ceilings. The names follow the same pattern, but we did not find a published model-by-model table for speaker strobes, so confirm the match on your submittal.

Outdoor SpectrAlert Advance (P2RK, P2RHK, SRK, SWK). The outdoor L-Series with LED datasheet (AVDS-62173) lists compact wall horn strobes P2GRKLED and P2GWKLED, compact wall strobes SGRKLED and SGWKLED, and ceiling models PC2RKLED, PC2WKLED, SCRKLED and SCWKLED. It gives no one-to-one table against the old K models, and it states that the back box should be changed to the L-Series with LED back box when replacing SpectrAlert Advance outdoor products.

Can LED and xenon appliances be mixed and synchronized on the same NAC?

System Sensor describes the LED appliances as electrically compatible with legacy SpectrAlert, SpectrAlert Advance and L-Series devices, and the installation manual calls them electrically backward compatible with the previous generation. They ship enabled for the System Sensor synchronization protocol, the same protocol the xenon manual names.

Sync needs one of three things: a power supply that generates System Sensor sync pulses, a panel NAC configured for the System Sensor protocol, or a sync module such as the MDL3R.

Two limits matter on a mixed circuit:

  • Voltage. The xenon L-Series is rated for regulated 12 VDC or regulated 24 V DC or FWR. The LED strobes and horn strobes are rated for regulated 24 VDC only, 16 to 33 V. The LED manual gives no 12 V or FWR ratings, so an LED unit is not a drop-in on those circuits.
  • Listing. The documents do not publish mixed-circuit test results. Whether a given panel or booster may drive both generations on one NAC is decided by that panel's compatibility document.

Does the LED version use the same mounting plate and back box?

Indoor models take the same electrical boxes as before. Both manuals list a 4 x 4 x 1-1/2 inch box, single gang, double gang or 4 inch octagon for standard units, and single gang for compact units. Honeywell also states that the surface mount back boxes (SBBRL, SBBWL, SBBGRL, SBBGWL, SBBCRL, SBBCWL) serve both L-Series and L-Series with LED appliances.

What the documents do not say is whether an LED appliance can be plugged onto a xenon mounting plate that is already on the wall. The LED manual has the installer mount the plate and then the appliance, so plan on installing the new plate. Outdoor replacements need the new back box, as noted above.

How does current draw change, and what does that do to NAC loading?

Current drops at every candela setting. Wall units keep the same seven candela choices (15, 30, 75, 95, 110, 135 and 185); LED ceiling units offer 15, 30, 75, 95, 115, 150 and 177. These are the UL maximum strobe currents for wall strobes from the two installation manuals:

Candela (wall) Xenon SRL / SWL, 16-33 VDC Xenon, 16-33 V FWR LED SRLED / SWLED, 16-33 VDC
15 43 mA 60 mA 18 mA
30 63 mA 83 mA 22 mA
75 107 mA 136 mA 70 mA
95 121 mA 155 mA 75 mA
110 148 mA 179 mA 85 mA
135 172 mA 209 mA 105 mA
185 222 mA 257 mA 120 mA

A lower number does not mean the old calculation still stands. Recalculate the NAC whenever appliances change: total the current of every device at its actual candela and tone setting, and confirm that the last device still sees a voltage inside its rated range. Horn strobe current depends on the tone and volume setting as well as candela, so use the horn strobe table in the manual, not the strobe table. Update the battery calculation too.

The xenon manual caps a 24 V NAC at 69 strobes. The LED manual gives no such count and limits the circuit to what the panel supports.

What do the part-number letters mean?

Code Meaning in the System Sensor model lists
P2 2-wire horn strobe (PC2 = ceiling horn strobe)
S Strobe only (SC = ceiling strobe)
SPS Speaker strobe (SPSC = ceiling speaker strobe)
G Compact housing
R / W Red / white
K Carried by every model in the outdoor datasheet
LED L-Series with LED light source
-P Plain housing, no FIRE marking
-SP FUEGO marking
-B Bilingual FIRE/FEU marking for Canadian applications
-ALERT / -CLR-ALERT ALERT marking with amber lens / clear lens
-BP10 Bulk pack of ten units

What should I order?

Match the old model to its LED number in the table, then check supply voltage, sync source and NAC loading before you order. The store carries the L-Series with LED line in the horn strobes and strobes collections, along with sync modules. For a project quantity or a model not listed, request a quote.

Compatibility must be confirmed against the control panel's listing documents, and the installation must follow NFPA 72 and the local AHJ.
