SPSCWLED — System Sensor L-Series with LED 2-wire speaker strobe, white, ceiling mount, for voice evacuation and emergency communication systems.
The SPSCWLED pairs a selectable-tap speaker with an LED strobe in a single ceiling appliance. LED lighting technology draws significantly less current than the older xenon bulbs across the full candela range, which improves design flexibility on notification appliance circuits and reduces power supply requirements. The speaker’s low harmonic distortion gives high fidelity output while still reaching the volume needed in high ambient noise applications. Installation follows the L-Series pattern: a universal mounting plate with an onboard shorting spring lets the circuit be pre-wired and checked for continuity before the plug-in appliance is fitted, and no extension ring is required. L-Series with LED appliances also add discreet DVM diagnostic test points on the face of the device, so voltage and end-of-line checks can be made with a digital volt meter without removing the appliance from the ceiling.

Installation notes

Ceiling candela values only: this is a ceiling appliance, so its selectable range is 15, 30, 75, 95, 115, 150 and 177 cd. The 110, 135 and 185 cd settings belong to the wall units (SPSWLED, SPSRLED) and must not be assumed available here.

Speaker strobe output is lower than a speaker alone: at a given tap the speaker strobe produces 76/79/82/83 dBA at ¼/½/1/2 W, where a speaker-only model such as the SPCWL gives 79/82/85/88 dBA. Do not size a speaker strobe using the speaker-only figures.

Two separate circuits: the speaker and strobe are powered independently. The strobe is a regulated 24 VDC appliance operating 16 to 33 VDC; the speaker line runs at a nominal 25 or 70.7 volts, with a maximum supervisory voltage of 50 VDC.

Set both rotary switches: candela, speaker voltage (25 or 70.7 Vrms) and power tap are all set by rotary switch. Confirm the speaker voltage switch matches the amplifier before energising — a 70.7 V line into a device set for 25 V is a common commissioning fault.

Synchronization is achieved with UL approved power supplies that support the System Sensor Sync protocol, or with a System Sensor MDL sync module.

Low frequency signalling: the appliance is 520 Hz capable when used with a compatible fire alarm control panel — the tone is generated by the panel, not by the appliance itself.

Retrofit: electrically compatible with legacy SpectrAlert, SpectrAlert Advance and L-Series devices at 16–33 VDC, and no extension ring is required.
