Sampling Points

Sampling points, capillary tubes and pipework fittings for aspirating smoke detection. The sampling point is where air enters the pipe network on its way back to the detector, so its size and placement determine what the system actually sees.

Hole diameter is calculated during system design and is not a field choice — changing it alters airflow through the whole network and invalidates the transport-time calculation. Capillary tubes extend a sampling point away from the pipe run, which is how concealed and in-cabinet sampling is done.
