Fire Alarm Pull Stations, Single Action and Dual Action

A fire alarm pull station is the manual initiating device that lets an occupant signal the control panel directly, without waiting for a detector to sense smoke or heat. Codes generally require them at exits and along egress paths in commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.

The main choices when specifying one:

• Single action - one motion, pull the handle, to trigger the alarm.
• Dual action - two deliberate motions, such as lift then pull or push then pull, to cut down on accidental and malicious activation.
• Addressable - reports its own point address to the panel over the SLC loop.
• Conventional - closes a contact on an initiating device circuit and is identified by zone rather than by device.
• Weatherproof, key reset and break rod variants for outdoor or high abuse locations.
