Gamewell-FCI ASD-PL3 photoelectric smoke sensor, white

The Gamewell-FCI ASD-PL2F is succeeded by the Velociti Series 3 ASD-PL3 family. For an existing ASD-PL2F site, Gamewell-FCI's datasheet points to the ivory ASD-PL3-IV service model, which runs in Velociti or CLIP. The white ASD-PL3 is Velociti only.

Gamewell-FCI does not publish a one-line cross-reference from ASD-PL2F to ASD-PL3 that we could find, so this guide shows what its documents do say and where the gaps are. Sources are listed at the end.

Is the ASD-PL3 the direct replacement for the ASD-PL2F?

It is the same-function detector in the current generation, and the choice between white and ivory is a protocol decision, not a color decision.

  • The Series 3 datasheet describes the ASD-PL3 as a redesigned photoelectric detector that complies with UL 268 7th Edition, in bright white.
  • The same datasheet says that for legacy installations, service detectors are available in ivory that operate in both Velociti and CLIP for backwards compatibility, and that those models carry the -IV suffix.
  • The installation sheet is explicit: the ASD-PL3 supports Velociti protocol only, and the ASD-PL3-IV supports Velociti or CLIP.
  • The legacy ASD-PL2F datasheet notes that only its red LED operates on panels that do not run in Velociti mode, which indicates the ASD-PL2F was used on both kinds of panel.

The pairings below match each legacy model to the Series 3 model with the same function, from the two datasheets. Gamewell-FCI has not published this as a cross-reference table.

Legacy Velociti model Function Series 3, white (Velociti only) Series 3, ivory (Velociti or CLIP)
ASD-PL2F Photoelectric smoke ASD-PL3 ASD-PL3-IV
ASD-PTL2F Photoelectric with 135°F thermal ASD-PTL3 ASD-PTL3-IV
ASD-PL2FR Photoelectric head used with the DNR duct housing ASD-PL3R ASD-PL3R-IV

For heat detectors, the Series 3 thermal datasheet lists the ATD-L3 (135°F fixed), the ATD-L3R (135°F fixed and rate-of-rise) and the ATD-L3H (190°F), each with an ivory -IV service version. Match them to the function of the legacy ATD head being removed. The current multi-criteria fire and CO detector is the MCS-COF3.

Which Gamewell-FCI panels accept Velociti Series 3 detectors?

The Series 3 datasheets name three panel families. The E3 Series and S3 Series support both Velociti and CLIP. The GWF-7075 supports Velociti only and does not support CLIP. The GWF-7075 manual lists both generations, the ASD-PL2F family and the ASD-PL3 family, in its SLC device tables.

For every other panel, including older 7100 and 600 series systems, the document that settles it is the Compatibility Addendum for Gamewell-FCI Manuals, P/N 9000-0427-L8. The datasheets refer to it for the complete list of panels listed with Series 3 detectors. We could not retrieve that addendum, so we make no claim about those panels here.

Does the ASD-PL3 fit the base already installed?

The two generations list different standard bases.

Detector 4-inch base 6-inch base Specialty bases
ASD-PL2F B501 B210LP B224RB relay, B224BI isolator, B200S and B200SR sounder
ASD-PL3 and ASD-PL3-IV B501-WHITE, B501-IV B300-6, B300-6-IV B224RB, B224BI, B200S, B200SR and low-frequency sounder versions, in white or ivory

The Series 3 documents do not say whether an ASD-PL3 head is listed on a B210LP or legacy B501 that is already on the ceiling. Honeywell's SLC wiring manual for its Notifier line describes the B300-6 as the replacement model for the B210LP, which shows how Honeywell treats the base, but that is a Notifier document. For a Gamewell-FCI system, check the base datasheet (P/N 9021-60540) and the base installation sheet, or ask Gamewell-FCI, before planning to reuse bases.

Is the ivory ASD-PL3-IV discontinued, and is the white ASD-PL3 the same device?

It is not the same device. The white ASD-PL3 is Velociti only, so it cannot stand in for an ASD-PL3-IV on a loop running CLIP.

On status, we found no Gamewell-FCI bulletin that discontinues the ASD-PL3-IV. What we did find:

  • Honeywell's product page for the ASD-PL3 currently carries a discontinued notice, without saying which part numbers it covers.
  • Honeywell has discontinued the ivory detectors in two sister lines: Notifier (notice M23.18, effective December 31, 2024) and Farenhyt IDP (bulletin M23.12, effective December 31, 2023). The Farenhyt bulletin says ivory color kits remain available for matching an existing finish.

Treat the ASD-PL3-IV as a part to confirm before a project depends on it. If it cannot be supplied, the documented choices are the white ASD-PL3 on a panel running Velociti, with the CK300-IV ivory color kit listed on the datasheet if the finish matters, or a conversation with Gamewell-FCI about a panel that runs CLIP. No Gamewell-FCI document we reviewed names a white CLIP-capable substitute.

Can ASD-PL2F and ASD-PL3 detectors share a loop?

The GWF-7075 manual lists both generations as SLC devices for the same panel, so both are supported there. The limit is protocol. A white ASD-PL3 needs the loop in Velociti mode. On a panel running CLIP, only the -IV models of Series 3 are listed to work. We did not find a Gamewell-FCI statement on mixing generations beyond that, so use the Compatibility Addendum for the panel in question.

Confirm any detector against the control panel's listing and compatibility documents, and install it to NFPA 72 and the requirements of the local AHJ.

Where to find these detectors and bases

The store stocks the Velociti Series 3 line in the Gamewell-FCI collection, including the ASD-PL3-BP ten-pack, plus smoke detectors and bases. In-stock orders placed by 3 PM ET ship the same business day. For a retrofit quantity or a part not listed, request a quote.
