ASD-PL2F — Gamewell-FCI Velociti Series analog addressable plug-in photoelectric smoke sensor with integral communication, for use with compatible Gamewell-FCI analog addressable fire alarm control panels. It is a low-profile plug-in head that requires a separate mounting base.
The sensor’s optical sensing chamber is engineered to sense smoke produced by a wide range of combustion sources. Sensitivity is programmed in the control panel software and is continuously monitored and reported to the panel, and Point ID capability allows each sensor’s address to be set so selective maintenance can be directed to the exact location when chamber contamination reaches an unacceptable level. Addressing is set with visual rotary decimal switches (01–159), and a built-in functional test switch is activated by an external magnet. Bi-color LEDs flash green whenever the sensor is addressed and light steady red on alarm. The Velociti Series communication protocol polls devices in groups and, when one device reports a status change, concentrates on that single device — giving response speed up to five times greater than earlier designs.
The ASD-PL2F is UL-listed for air velocities of 0–4,000 ft./min. and is suitable for installation in ducts; the DNR duct smoke housing is a separate ordering option. Plug-in construction and a removal tool let maintenance personnel install and remove sensors without a ladder.

Installation notes
-
No thermal sensor on this model: the data sheet assigns the dual electronic thermistors and 135°F (57°C) fixed-temperature thermal sensing to the ASD-PTL2F. If the job requires combined photo/thermal sensing, order the ASD-PTL2F, not the ASD-PL2F.
-
Base ordered separately: the plug-in sensor requires a base (B501, B210LP, B224RB relay, isolator, or B200S/B200SR sounder base).
-
Box depth: mount the base on a box at least 1.5″ (3.8 cm) deep — 4.0″ square, 3.5″ or 4.0″ octagonal, or single-gang (single-gang not permitted for relay or isolator bases).
-
Sounder and relay bases: B200S/B200SR mount on a 4.0″ octagonal or square box; B224RB/B224BI mount on a 3.5″ octagonal or 4.0″ octagonal/square box.
-
No end-of-line resistors: because of the inherent supervision provided by the SLC, EOL resistors are not required, and wiring T-taps or branches are permitted for Style 4 (Class B) wiring.
-
Isolator spacing: maximum 25 devices between isolator bases.
-
LED behavior: only the red LED is operative in panels that do not operate in Velociti mode.
-
Testing: the functional test switch is magnet-activated at the sensor.
-
Spacing: Gamewell-FCI recommends sensor spacing in compliance with NFPA 72.
-
Environment: though rated to 120°F and 93% RH, installation in a normal room temperature of 60–80°F (15–27°C) is recommended for component life.
