VLF-250-00 — VESDA LaserFOCUS aspirating smoke detector for small business-critical spaces of less than 250 m² (2,500 sq ft).
The LaserFOCUS continually draws air from sampling holes in a pipe network, filters it, and passes it into a laser detection chamber where light scattering reveals very small quantities of smoke. It is designed to be installed and commissioned straight out of the box, without a special interface or software programming tool. The Smoke Dial display renders a developing smoke event legible from across a room, and behind the field service access door the Instant Fault Finder converts that same dial into a numbered fault indicator so a technician arrives at the callback already knowing the fault. LaserFOCUS was the first air sampling smoke detector to use ultrasonic flow sensing, which reads sampling pipe flow rate directly and is immune to air temperature and pressure changes and unaffected by contamination.

Installation notes

Hole count is the hard limit: 12 sampling holes on a single 25 m pipe, or 6 per branch on a two-branch network. Pipe runs are either the pre-engineered option or modelled in ASPIRE2 — there is no third route to a compliant design.

The last two digits are a language set: VLF-250-00 carries the European language set with English display labels. The -01, -02, -04 and -05 codes are the same detector with international display labels and different language sets.

VESDAnet is an add-in card: the detector reports over three relays as shipped. Networking requires the VIC-010 VESDAnet Interface Card; VIC-020 and VIC-030 add Multifunction Control Card functions.

Consumables are model-specific: the filter cartridge is VSP-005, but the aspirator for the VLF-250 is VSP-722 — the VLF-500 uses VSP-715 instead.

Not a Flair detector: the LaserFOCUS uses laser-based light scattering with ultrasonic flow sensing. Flair imaging detection belongs to the later VESDA-E range (VEP, VES, VEU).
