RTS151KEY — System Sensor remote test station with key, an automatic fire detector accessory designed to test duct smoke detectors from a convenient location.
Duct smoke detectors are usually mounted at the air handler, where reaching them for a functional test means a ladder, a lift or a trip into a mechanical space. The RTS151KEY brings that test to eye level: it mounts remotely and initiates the detector’s test function through a key-operated switch, so the test cannot be started by an unauthorised person. For 4-wire detectors the RTS151KEY features a multi-coloured LED that alternates between steady green and red, giving both a power and an alarm indication at the station; for 2-wire detectors the LED illuminates red for alarm.

Installation notes

The DCOIL is required and is sold separately: using an RTS151 or RTS151KEY requires the installation of an accessory test coil, part number DCOIL. The station will not test the detector without it. Order it at the same time.

The test coil circuit needs its own external 24 VDC supply, which must be UL listed. The DCOIL is rated 17.5–26.4 VDC at 95 mA maximum — this is the bulk of the station’s 105 mA total current figure, and it is not drawn from the detector’s communication line.

Allow up to 40 seconds: alarm response time is 40 seconds maximum. Do not judge a test as failed before that interval has elapsed.

Wider temperature range than the appliances it works with: rated −10°C to 60°C (14°F to 140°F), so it may be sited in spaces outside a typical indoor notification appliance’s 32°F to 120°F band.

LED behaviour depends on the detector wiring: the alternating green/red multi-coloured indication applies to 4-wire detectors. On a 2-wire detector the LED gives red for alarm only, with no green power indication.

It does not select between sensors: the key switch operates the test function. Selecting one of two connected sensors to test or reset, and taking sensitivity measurements with the SENS-RDR, are functions of the RTS2 and RTS2-AOS multi-signalling accessories, not of this station.
