System Sensor 5151 — a low-profile 100 Series plug-in thermal detector combining a 135°F (57.2°C) fixed-temperature element with 15°F-per-minute rate-of-rise detection. The detector head plugs into a separate 100 Series or 400 Series base, which is ordered separately and determines the wiring configuration and voltage.
The 5151 thermal detector meets the needs for applications where rapid response is vital and rapid temperature increases would only be caused by a fire emergency. It initiates an alarm in response to both rapid rate-of-rise conditions and fixed heat, which enables the detector to communicate an alarm to the control panel prior to reaching its fixed set point on fast-developing fires, while still providing a timely response to slow temperature increases. Two visible LEDs blink in standby and provide a 360° field viewing angle, a built-in test switch supports routine functional testing, and the head plugs easily into the base for service without disturbing field wiring.

Installation notes

Base required: the 5151 is a detector head only. It must be mounted to one of the 100 Series or 400 Series bases listed in the manufacturer’s Adapter Mounting Base Guide. An F110 flange ring is required when using 400 Series bases.

The base sets the electrical behaviour: B110LP is 2-wire, 12/24 VDC, 10–130 mA alarm current; B110RLP is 2-wire 24 VDC with a current-limit resistor, 10–62 mA; B112LP is 4-wire 24 VDC with Form-A & -C contacts; B114LP is 4-wire 120 VAC; B116LP is 2-wire 24 VDC with a Form-C contact. On B110LP, B116LP and B401 bases the alarm current must be limited by the control panel.

Ambient limit: the application temperature range tops out at 100°F (38°C), so the 5151 is not suited to high-ambient areas such as boiler rooms or unconditioned attics — a higher-rated heat detector is required there.

Spacing is conditional: the 50-foot smooth-ceiling spacing may need to be reduced depending on ceiling height, high air movement, and other conditions or response requirements.

Junction boxes: B110LP/RLP accept single-gang, 3½″, 4″ octagonal and 4″ square boxes; B401 accepts 50 mm and 60 mm boxes; B114LP requires a 4″ octagonal or 4″ square box.
