PHSC-172-XCR is Protectowire linear heat detector cable with a 172°F (78°C) fixed alarm temperature and an XCR fluoropolymer outer jacket. Two steel conductors insulated with a heat-sensitive polymer short together at the first point along the cable that reaches the rated temperature, which signals an alarm on the connected initiating circuit. The XCR jacket is the high performance version for industrial applications that need abrasion and chemical resistance, indoors or outdoors.

Compatibility and installation notes
- Protectowire states XCR is the only heat detector FM-approved for corrosive environments.
- FM Approved for Class I, II and III, Div. 1 hazardous areas when used with suitably approved Protectowire control equipment.
- Can share an initiating circuit with pull stations, spot heat detectors and smoke detectors; different temperature ratings may be used on the same circuit.
- Also available on stainless steel messenger wire by adding the suffix -M.
- Select the temperature rating from the maximum ambient temperature at the installed location.
