Det-Tronics U5015A3N12A (P/N 012500-213) — an explosion-proof photoelectric smoke detector with a 3-port aluminum junction box, 3/4" NPT entries and non-latching 0–20 mA plus relay outputs, FM/IECEx/CSA approved for Class I, Division 1 and Zone 1 hazardous locations.
The U5015 (marketed as ClearView 3D™, formerly SmokeWatch™) is used where a fire signal is needed inside a classified area: petroleum refineries, chemical processing plants, volatile chemical and combustible storage, munitions manufacturing, turbine enclosures, battery rooms and HVAC applications. It responds to both smouldering and rapidly growing fires and annunciates its own faults, so there are no undisclosed failures. The intrinsically safe sensor module is hot-swappable, allowing live maintenance under power without de-classifying the hazardous area. Three relays — smoke alarm, fault and auxiliary — let the detector drive annunciating devices or interface to a fire panel, while the 0–20 mA output supports DCS or PLC integration.

Installation notes

Division 2 ambient is narrower: the FM approval permits −20°C to +65°C in Division 1 and Zone 1, but only −20°C to +58°C in Division 2. Check the design ambient against the specific classification of the area before specifying.

IP44 is ceiling-mount only: the IP44 rating is maintained only when the detector is mounted on a ceiling. CSA lists this explicitly as a condition of safe use.

Unused ports must be plugged: all unused device openings have to be closed with a suitably certified plug. Det-Tronics stop plugs are 101197-001 (3/4" NPT, aluminium) and 101197-005 (M25, aluminium).

Conduit seal: CSA requires a seal installed within 18 in of the enclosure.

Field wiring temperature rating: use wire rated 20°C above the maximum ambient temperature.

Flameproof joints are not repairable: on AEx d / Ex d rated units the flameproof joints may not be repaired in the field. The detector is not field repairable; only the sensor module (104286-003) is field replaceable.

Supply requirement: Um = 35 Vdc, and the supply must come from a SELV, PELV or equivalent system.

Mechanical damage and static: the FM and IECEx certificates are “X” conditional — install only where the risk of mechanical damage is low, and follow the instructions regarding potential electrostatic charging.

Duct installations: the U5015 must be used with the Q5017R Duct Mount Accessory for duct mounting. The UL 268A listing for the duct accessory applies only when installed on the vertical surface of the duct.
