SK-PHOTO-W — white, low-profile intelligent plug-in photoelectric smoke detector that occupies one address on a Silent Knight signaling line circuit.
The SK-PHOTO-W Series are direct replacements for the SK-PHOTO Series detectors, with a contemporary low-profile design and an enhanced optical sensing chamber engineered to sense smoke produced by a wide range of combustion sources in accordance with more stringent code standards. Detector sensitivity is programmed in the control panel software, then continuously monitored and reported back to the panel. Point ID capability lets each detector address be set with rotary decimal address switches, giving an exact detector location for selective maintenance when chamber contamination reaches an unacceptable level. Two bi-color LEDs give a 360° field viewing angle — blinking green in normal condition and steady red in alarm. The detector plugs into a separate base, which is ordered separately and determines the installed diameter.

Installation notes

Base is a separate order: the detector plugs into a separate base to simplify installation, service and maintenance. The base also sets the finished diameter — 4" on a B501, 6.1" on a B300-6.

Back-box depth: mount the base (all base types) on an electrical back box at least 1.5" (3.81 cm) deep. For a chart of compatible junction boxes see Silent Knight document SK-61045.

No end-of-line resistor: because of the inherent supervision provided by the SLC loop, end-of-line resistors are not required, and wiring T-taps or branches are permitted for Class B wiring.

Isolator limits with relay/sounder bases: when using relay or sounder bases, consult the SK-ISO installation sheet I56-3627 for device limitations between isolator modules and isolator bases.

No heat element in this model: the plain SK-PHOTO-W is photoelectric only. The dual electronic thermistors that add 135°F (57°C) fixed-temperature thermal sensing are a feature of the SK-PHOTO-T-W, and the series thermal ratings — fixed set point 135°F (57°C), rate-of-rise 15°F (8.3°C) per minute, high temperature heat 190°F (88°C) — apply to that model, not to this one.

Spacing: Silent Knight recommends spacing detectors in compliance with NFPA 72; in low-airflow applications with a smooth ceiling, space detectors 30 feet (9.1 m). Refer to NFPA 72 and the System Smoke Detector Application Guide, document SPAG91, for placement and special applications.

Testing: a built-in functional test switch is activated by an external magnet (M02-04-00, or M02-09-00 with telescoping handle), and remote test can be commanded from the panel. Walk test displays the address by blinking the LED — an address of 121 blinks the LED 12-(pause)-1.
