Apollo ORB-OP-12001-APO is the Orbis Optical Smoke Detector, a conventional two-wire detector head from Apollo Fire Detectors. It works on the light-scatter principle, and its chamber measures back-scattered as well as forward-scattered light, which Apollo says improves its response to black smoke. Apollo recommends it as a general-purpose smoke detector for early warning in most areas, and notes optical detectors suit smouldering fires and escape routes.

Compatibility and installation notes
- Detector head only; it fits an Orbis base. Apollo's head installation guide covers fitting heads to Orbis TimeSaver bases, including the optional head locking feature.
- StartUp check: with correct polarity, the red LED flashes once per second for four minutes after power-up; a smoke or heat test can be done during that window.
- A locked head is released with a 1.5 mm hexagonal driver (Apollo part 29600-095) through the small hole in the detector face.
- FasTest runs a functional test in four seconds; the yellow DirtAlert LED flags a detector that has reached its drift-compensation limit.
- The approvals Apollo lists for this part are European marks; no UL or ULC listing is stated in the documents used here.
