4098-9778 is the black version of the Simplex TrueAlarm analog heat sensor, NEMA 1 rated. It plugs into a TrueAlarm sensor base and reports analog temperature values over IDNet or MAPNET II two-wire communications to Simplex 4007ES, 4010, 4010ES, 4100ES and 4100U fire alarm control units (4008 series with a reduced feature set). Fixed temperature, rate-of-rise and utility monitoring modes are selected at the control unit.

Compatibility and installation notes
- Mounts on TrueAlarm bases 4098-9775, 4098-9776, 4098-9792, 4098-9789, 4098-9791 and 4098-9780; follow the mounting requirements of the base used.
- Ceiling or wall mounting. The 190°F setting applies only to the 4098-9734 high temperature sensor, not to this model.
- Sensors can be swapped between photoelectric and heat types in the same base; the control unit flags an incorrect sensor type while the heat sensor keeps operating at a default sensitivity.
- See the 4098 Detectors, Sensors, and Bases Application Manual (574-709) for application guidance.
