Suppression cylinders store the agent for a fixed fire-suppression system — the tanks that discharge when a detection system commands release. They protect spaces where water would cause unacceptable damage: data centres, control rooms, switchgear, archives, museum storage, marine engine rooms and industrial process areas.
The agent determines the cylinder. Clean agents such as Novec 1230 and HFC-227ea suppress fire without residue and are used in occupied spaces. CO2 is used in normally unoccupied hazards, in high- or low-pressure storage depending on volume. Cylinder size is set by the protected volume and the concentration the hazard requires.
Cylinders are pressure vessels with periodic hydrostatic test and recharge requirements, and each cylinder pairs with a specific valve, actuator and discharge hardware. Match the cylinder to the system it will join — agent, pressure and valve type all have to line up.
