5601P — System Sensor 5600 Series single-circuit mechanical heat detector, normally open, rated 135°F (57°C) and activating on either fixed temperature or rate-of-rise.
The 5600 Series gives a low-cost means of property protection against fire, and suits non-life-safety installations where smoke detectors are inappropriate — garages, boiler and mechanical rooms, attics, kitchens and other spaces where dust, steam or fumes would cause nuisance smoke alarms. The 5601P is the plain-housing member of the family, carrying no exterior alphanumeric marking, which is why System Sensor positions it for residential installations where the lettered models would be visually intrusive. Its rate-of-rise element is restorable so the detector can be field-tested and returned to service, and an external collector drops from the unit on activation to identify which detector is in alarm. A reversible mounting bracket permits both flush and surface mount back box installations.

Installation notes

Property protection, not life safety: System Sensor positions the 5600 Series for property protection and non-life-safety installations where smoke detectors are inappropriate. A heat detector is not a substitute for smoke detection where smoke detection is required.

Maximum ambient is 100°F: the 135°F models (5601P, 5603, 5621, 5623) are limited to a 100°F (38°C) installation temperature. In a space that normally runs hotter — an attic or a boiler room — use a 194°F model such as the 5602, which is rated to 150°F (65.6°C).

Spacing: the 50 x 50 foot UL protected spacing applies to a 10-foot ceiling. Refer to NFPA 72 for the spacing reductions required when ceiling heights exceed 10 feet.

Rate-of-rise is restorable, fixed temperature is not: the ROR element resets after field testing, but once the fixed-temperature element has operated and the collector has dropped, the detector has to be replaced.

No exterior marking: because the 5601P carries no lettering, it cannot be distinguished from other 5600 models by sight. Label the device or record the model at commissioning so the wrong rating is not fitted at replacement.

Single circuit: one normally open contact set. Where an auxiliary contact is needed for a separate function, use the dual-circuit 5621.
