NOTIFIER HS-NCM-SF — High-Speed Network Communications Module, fiber-optic cable interface (single-mode).
The HS-NCM provides NOTIFIER’s N16, NFS-320, NFS-640, NFS2-640, NFS-3030 and NFS2-3030 fire alarm control panels, NCD, NCA and NCA-2 network control displays and annunciators, and the DVC Digital Voice Command with a means to connect to High-Speed NOTI•FIRE•NET (NFN). The SF version is the variant for connecting nodes with single-mode fiber-optic cable. Each HS-NCM can accommodate up to two node addresses — one module can, for example, provide network communication for both an N16 and an NCD. When it is not connected to a fire alarm panel the module defaults to repeater mode, where it can boost signal distances or pass data transmissions between two differently configured network segments where wire and fiber co-exist on a network. Fiber gives the link immunity to environmental noise, and optical isolation prevents ground loops between buildings.

Installation notes
-
TX to RX, Port A to Port B: when wiring consecutive nodes or repeaters, fiber must exit one board on Transmit (TX) and enter the next node/repeater on Receive (RX). The fiber-optic pair (RX, TX) from Port A of one node/repeater connects to Port B of another.
-
What it can connect to: an HS-NCM-MF/SF may be connected to an HS-NCM-MF/SF (respectively) on another panel, an HS-NCM-WMF-2, an HS-NCM-WSF-2 or an HS-NCM-MFSF. Single-mode links to single-mode; mixing fiber types on one network is the job of the HS-NCM-MFSF.
-
Attenuation budget: the 30 dB figure applies to 9/125 µm single-mode cable. The multimode figures (10 dB with 62.5/125 µm, 6.5 dB with 50/125 µm) belong to the MF variants and must not be used to size a single-mode run.
-
Mounting: all HS-NCM models install in any standard chassis such as the CHS-4L, CHS-M2, CHS-M3, CHS-4N or CPU2-640 chassis. The door-mount option on ADP-4B/BMP-1 or DP-4A/DP-T2A/ABP-1 dress panels applies to the HS-NCM-W-2, not to the fiber versions.
-
Repeater mode is automatic: a module not connected to a fire alarm panel defaults to repeater mode, which is how distances beyond a single point-to-point run are extended.
-
Documentation: correct configuration depends on network design — refer to the High-Speed NFN Manual, P/N 54013, and the HS-NCM Manual, P/N 54014.
-
Recommended environment: the useful life of standby batteries and electronic components can be adversely affected by temperature and humidity extremes; NOTIFIER recommends a nominal room temperature of 15°C to 27°C (60°F to 80°F).
