Gentex S — catalogue number 917-0070-002, a 120VAC single and multiple station smoke alarm with 9V battery backup, listed to ANSI/UL 217 9th Edition.
This is a self-contained dwelling-unit evacuation device with its own horn and battery, not a UL 268 system detector on a panel loop, and the two are not interchangeable.
- Smoke sensing only: the S gets a smoke sensor and nothing else, no CO, no heat, no thermal, no relays.
- Gentex calls it multi-criteria smoke sensing including photoelectric light scattering, at 2.5 percent nominal obscuration.
- 120VAC 60 Hz at 0.055 A, with low battery and 10 year end-of-life indicators.
- 85 dBA at 10 feet piezo horn, 3100 Hz nominal, on the temporal 3 pattern.
- 5.5 in. by 5.5 in. overall, 1.75 in. deep, on hardware for standard boxes.
- Tandem interconnect of up to 18 initiating devices, at most 12 S or SC Series alarms.
SR (917-0071-002) adds relay contacts, STRR an integral 135°F rate-of-rise thermal, SHRR an isolated thermal, SC (918-0031-002) CO sensing. The S tandem interconnects with the GN-503, CO1209 and S1209 Series, but no Gentex document read says it replaces the S1209.
