Edwards SIGA-OSD — a Signature Optica Series intelligent optical (photoelectric) smoke detector that reports analog sensor data digitally to a Signature loop controller.
The SIGA-OSD gathers analog information from multiple optical sensors and converts it to digital signals. Using dual optical wavelengths combined with multiple detection angles, it differentiates particles that are not representative of actual smoke; particle data feeds digital filters and a series of ratios that remove signal patterns typical of nuisance sources, reducing unwanted alarms. The on-board microprocessor measures and analyzes all optical sensor readings and compares them against preprogrammed settings to make the alarm decision. Continuous self-diagnostics and a permanently stored history log in non-volatile memory support maintenance, and automatic device mapping lets the loop controller supervise each device’s installed position so a detector cannot be returned to the wrong location after cleaning.
The detector head ships on its own. A mounting base is a separate catalog number and must be ordered to suit the application — standard, relay, fault-isolator, or audible/sounder.

Installation notes

Base is a separate order: the data sheet lists every mounting base under Accessories, not with the detector. Choose SIGA-SB / SIGA-SB4 (standard), SIGA-RB / SIGA-RB4 (relay), SIGA-IB / SIGA-IB4 (fault isolator), or SIGA-AB4G, SIGA-AB4GT, SIGA-AB4G-LF (audible).

Trim skirt: the SIGA-TS4 trim skirt is supplied with the 4-inch bases. For the non-4-inch bases it is a separate order as SIGA-TS.

Remote LED restriction: the SIGA-LED remote alarm LED connects to the SIGA-SB or SIGA-SB4 standard base only. The isolator base does not support it. The data sheet also notes the SIGA-LED is not for EN54 applications.

Sounder base caution: SIGA-AB4G bases are not intended for use with combination carbon monoxide detectors in Fire-plus-CO mode. SIGA-AB4GT and SIGA-AB4G-LF support CO detectors when used with a SIGA-TCDR temporal pattern generator. The SIGA-AB4G mounts to a 4 inch square box only.

Panel compatibility: compatible only with control panels using a Signature loop controller. Up to 250 total Signature addresses per loop.

Boxes: mounts to North American 1-gang, 3-1/2 in. or 4 in. octagon, and 4 in. square boxes 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) deep; also European BESA and 1-gang boxes with 60.3 mm fixing centers. The SIGA-SB4, SIGA-RB4 and SIGA-IB4 are the versions that take a 4 in. square box.

Wiring: bases accept #18 AWG (0.75 mm²) through #12 AWG (2.5 mm²); #16 and #18 AWG are preferred. Maximum resistance per wire must not exceed 10 ohms.

Fault isolator behavior: on a shorted line all isolators open within 23 msec, then re-close at 10 msec intervals working outward from the loop controller; the isolator next to the short reopens within 10 msec. A detector must be installed in an isolator base for it to operate.

Sensitivity testing: the detector reports its own sensitivity measurement to the loop controller, and a report may be printed to satisfy the NFPA sensitivity measurement required at the end of the first year and every two years thereafter.
