Westell CS05-494-114 — 3 dB public safety power tapper, model PT3/340-2.7K/N, with N female connectors.
A power tapper splits RF power unequally: it drops a portion of the signal off at the tap port to feed one antenna and lets the majority continue along the main line to the next. Chaining tappers of different values balances power across many antennas in an ERCES or DAS. Westell rates the series for UHF, 700 and 800 MHz public safety. Note that the 3 dB tapper does not split power evenly: Westell gives a 2:1 ratio.
- Frequency range: 340–2700 MHz
- Coupling 3 dB; nominal ratio 2:1
- Output split -2 / -4.8 dB
- Branch flatness within 1.3 dB at 340–698 MHz and 0.8 dB at 698–960 and 1700–2700 MHz
- Input VSWR 1.35:1 maximum
- N-type female connectors; 5.43 × 1.81 × 0.98 in.
The same 3 dB tapper with 4.3-10 connectors is the CS05-405-114. The next value up in the N-connector series is the CS05-478-114 (5 dB). The CV05-522-614 is the 3 dB tapper for 138–960 MHz. An even split calls for a 2-way divider such as the CS04-472-429, and the 3 dB hybrid coupler CS05-487-390 is a different part.
