VES-A10-P-UL — UL-listed VESDA-E VES sector-addressable aspirating smoke detector, four pipes, 3.5 in colour display, plastic enclosure.
The VES is the scanning member of the VESDA-E family. A valve mechanism in the inlet manifold, with the software to drive it, lets one detector treat its four sampling pipes as four independently reported sectors — separate aisles in a data hall, for example. In normal operation the detector draws from all sectors at once. When the smoke level reaches the Adaptive Scan Threshold it scans each sector quickly to find which one is carrying smoke; the first sector to pass Alert is reported as the First Alarm Sector, and the detector then continues to monitor all four to track fire growth. Four alarm levels are configurable per sector. The 3.5 in LCD shows detector status with a smoke level bargraph and alarm thresholds per sector, trouble status, airflow percentage, normalisation status and filter life used.

Installation notes
-
Sectors are pipes: addressability is by sampling pipe, up to four. It localises smoke to a sector, not to an individual sampling hole — per-point addressing is the VEA product line, not the VES.
-
AutoLearn is unavailable in Open area mode: the product guide states the AutoLearn function is not available when the detector configuration is set to Open area mode, so plan on designed thresholds there.
-
Twelve relays, not seven: the sector-reporting model carries 12 programmable relays against the VEP's 7, which is what makes per-sector hardwired annunciation to a panel practical.
-
Exhaust adaptor is a separate part: IPS 3/4 in (1.05 in OD) pipe requires the VSP-961 imperial pipe adaptor for an airtight exhaust seal.
-
IP40 is not UL evaluated — the enclosure rating is stated but explicitly outside the UL listing.
-
The UL variant is not spec-identical to the non-UL VES-A10-P: this guide publishes 10.6 lb (4.8 kg) and a 0°C to 38°C ambient, where the general VESDA-E VES data sheet gives 4.4 kg and 0°C to 39°C. Use the UL figures for UL work.
