P2RL — System Sensor L-Series indoor selectable-output horn strobe, 2-wire, wall mount, red housing with "FIRE" marking. The strobe is a xenon flash tube; this is the pre-LED model, superseded by the P2RLED.
The L-Series line of wall-mount horns, strobes and horn strobes increases application versatility while simplifying installation. All devices feature plug-in designs with minimal intrusion into the back box, making installations fast and foolproof while virtually eliminating costly and time-consuming ground faults. A universal mounting plate with an onboard shorting spring lets installers test wiring continuity before the device is installed. Installers adapt the device to the application using field-selectable candela settings, automatic selection of 12- or 24-volt operation, and a rotary switch for horn tones with two volume selections. The horn strobe is wired as a primary-signaling notification appliance and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for visible signaling appliances, flashing at 1 Hz over the strobe’s entire operating voltage range.

Installation notes

12 V operation is limited to 15 and 30 cd. The data sheet states that strobe products operate at 12 V nominal only for 15 cd and 30 cd. A design at 75 cd or above must run at 24 V nominal.

No coded horn settings on a 2-wire model: switch positions 9 and 10 (coded and 3.1 kHz coded) are not available on 2-wire horn strobes. Temporal coding must be provided by the NAC; if the NAC voltage is held constant, the horn output remains constantly on.

Wall candela set: wall units use 15/30/75/95/110/135/185 cd. Ceiling models use 15/30/75/95/115/150/177 cd. Never mix the two sets or their current draw tables.

This is a xenon appliance, not an LED one. Do not apply the LED family’s low current figures (18–120 mA) or its 24 V-only 16–33 V range to the P2RL. The P2RL draws substantially more current and does support 12 V nominal at 15 and 30 cd.

FWR draws more current than DC at the same setting — up to 326 mA against 262 mA at 185 cd. Size the notification appliance circuit from the column matching the actual supply type.

Back boxes: standard 2 × 4 × 1⅝-inch, 4 × 4 × 1½-inch, 4-inch octagon, or double-gang. The NAC wiring terminates at the universal mounting plate.

Synchronization: the MDL3 Sync•Circuit module synchronizes strobes at 1 Hz and horns at temporal three, and can silence the horns while the strobes keep operating over a single pair of wires. It must not be operated from a coded power supply.

Retrofit: electrically compatible with legacy SpectrAlert and SpectrAlert Advance devices.
