B200SR-WH — System Sensor B200SR series intelligent sounder base, white, producing an ANSI Temporal 3 or continuous tone and intended for use with intelligent systems.
The B200SR series is designed for new and existing dwelling unit applications, and offers flexibility in installation, configuration and operation to meet or exceed UL 268 and UL 464 requirements. It is fully compatible with existing B501BH-Series sounder base installations, which makes it the natural retrofit part where an older sounder base is being replaced. Tone is selected by an onboard jumper rather than a switch. The base uses a separate mounting plate that installs on various junction box sizes, eliminating unsightly surface-mount boxes and allowing all connections to be pre-wired; the housing then mates with the plate and locks in position with two retaining screws, which the installed sensor head covers for added tamper resistance. A mechanical locking feature prevents removal of the attached sensor head. The detector head is not included.

Installation notes

An external supply is mandatory: the sounder base requires an external power supply of 16 to 33 VDC (VFWR) in addition to the SLC. The external supply and communication loop connections are isolated to prevent electrical interaction between them.

The external supply may become part of the main power supply system: when the base is not used as a supplementary evacuation system, the external 24 VDC supply must be treated as a component of the main power supply system — which brings it under the associated battery and supervision requirements.

Grouping is limited and unsupervised: UL has approved grouping of up to six B200SR sounder bases, wired together on terminal 6 (Sounder Base Interconnect). A local grouping via that interconnect is not supervised, so it may only be used as a supplementary evacuation system — it is not acceptable for primary alarm signalling. Some panels support sounder base grouping in software instead.

Use Temporal 3 for public mode: for NFPA 72 installations the Temporal 3 tone should be used for public mode evacuation. Temporal 3 is the default with the jumper installed; removing the jumper gives continuous tone.

The 85 dBA figure is the continuous-tone rating, measured at 10 ft in a UL reverberant room at 24 volts. Do not assume the same output when the base is set to Temporal 3.

This is not a low frequency base: the 520 Hz square wave tone required by NFPA 72 for sleeping spaces is provided by the B200SR-LF, not by this model.

Loop loading: refer to the panel manual for the maximum allowable number of units per loop, and check the Base/Sensor Cross Reference Chart for head compatibility and the resulting temperature rating.

Testing: latch the sensor LED on from the control panel; that individual sensor’s B200SR should sound. When performing maintenance on connected smoke sensors, carefully note the location and address of each removed sensor.
