Simplex 553-810 — the magnet tester Simplex names by part number for the magnetic test on its sensors, detectors and TrueAlert appliances.
Simplex builds a magnetically operated functional test into its addressable devices so one can be proved without aerosol. Holding the tester at the marked spot puts the device into magnet-test mode: a TrueAlert appliance flashes back its own address and then activates, and a detector latches into alarm and reports by LED pattern whether it is in calibration.
- Simplex instructions call it magnet tester 553-810.
- 4906 appliances: hold it at the bottom right of the cover near the LED for at least two seconds, or until the LED flashes.
- 4098 duct detector: place it flat at the TEST mark for four seconds; the LED pattern reports normal, more or less sensitive, or non-functional.
- The host controller or panel must be in diagnostic mode and set for magnet testing.
SSD is not a Simplex designation and appears in none of the instructions that specify this part. A magnet test is also a functional check only: Simplex states that aerosol testing, with the 553-673 tester, is what meets the NFPA requirement.
