Simplex 4098-9846 — tamper-resistant sensor guard for TrueAlarm smoke and heat sensors.
NFPA 72 requires a detector subject to mechanical damage to be protected by a guard listed for use with that detector, which is why a cell or a dormitory cannot take a generic cage. This is the listed pairing for TrueAlarm sensing.
- One guard: cover, mounting frame and four tamper-resistant recessed hex-head screws.
- 6 1/2 in. × 6 1/2 in. × 3 in.; single-wall 22 gauge steel; tan baked enamel; 1/4 in. hex perforations on 1/4 in. centres.
- UL listed to Standard 521, ULC listed to Standard 530.
- Listed only with the 4098-9714 photoelectric or 4098-9754 photo/heat sensor restricted to 0.5 to 1.5% per foot obscuration, or the 4098-9733 heat sensor, on Simplex bases 4098-9789, -9791, -9792, -9766, -9767, -9777 or -9793 — all ordered separately.
- Flush 4 in. square or octagonal box is standard; a surface box needs the 4098-9847 extension box plus 4098-9832 adapter plate.
- Debris on the grill significantly restricts airflow into the sensor.
Do not confuse this with 4098-9847, the extension box alone, or 4098-9823, the secure hex key.
