Simplex 2975-9145 — red mounting box for Simplex wall-mount notification appliances, 7-7/8" H × 5-1/8" W × 2-3/4" D (200 × 130 × 70 mm).
This is the deep box Simplex used behind its older rectangular horns, strobes and speakers, and it stays in the catalogue because a current TrueAlert ES appliance can be fitted to one already in the wall rather than cutting in a new 4 in. square box. The appliance never bolts to it directly: an adapter plate goes between the two, and which plate depends on the appliance.

The plate is the thing to get right, since the horn-strobe plate will not take a speaker-strobe. Do not confuse the box itself with 4905-9923 and 4905-9924, the current surface mount box for rectangular appliances at 4-5/16 × 6-5/8 × 2-3/4 in.
