Siemens PAD-3 (599-699189) — distributed power supply unit and notification appliance circuit extender supplying 6 Amps at 24VDC across four power-limited NACs, with a built-in auxiliary power output and battery charger, in a black sheet-metal enclosure.
The PAD-3 exists to put power where the appliances are, rather than dragging every notification circuit back to the panel — typically to add strobe capacity in buildings that must conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Each unit contains the NACs, signal-input circuits, a battery-charging circuit, trouble relays for remote monitoring, diagnostic LEDs and the AC power connection. The 6 Amps can be directed to four Class B or two Class A power-limited NACs, each rated 3 Amps, and one or two inputs can control the four outputs through seven documented configuration options. Outputs are individually programmable as steady, ANSI Temporal 3, or synchronized strobe, and one input can be set to silence the audible signal on Siemens AS-, NS- or ZH-series horn/strobes while the strobes stay active. The unit supervises low AC power, battery voltage, earth ground faults, auxiliary output power-limited conditions and end-of-line supervision.

Installation notes

The 6 Amps is a shared budget: the auxiliary output can drive other system components such as door holders at up to 3A @ 24VDC, but when it is used the total drawn from the unit still cannot exceed 6 Amps.

Battery size limits the enclosure: the charger handles up to 15AH, but the PAD-3 enclosure only has room for battery sets up to 7AH. Anything larger must go in a System 3 enclosure or a separate UL/ULC Listed battery enclosure.

Multiple units, one battery set: System 3 enclosures can house several PAD-3 units using the S3AP adapter plate, and two units mounted in the same enclosure can share a battery set.

Two ways to report trouble: connect the PAD-3 to a notification circuit of a Siemens FACP, or monitor it with a TRI-series monitoring module on a Siemens intelligent system. A Form C dry contact is provided per input plus a Form C trouble contact for the unit.

Class B circuits need the right EOL: 24K ohm, on every Class B output.

Silence-audible option is appliance specific: the configuration where a second input silences horns while strobes remain active applies to Siemens AS-, NS- and ZH-series horn/strobe devices.
