Siemens DPU (500-033260) — portable, menu-driven device programming and test unit that addresses and tests Siemens addressable field devices, and doubles as a loop tester and ground-fault detector, before any of it goes on the wall.
The DPU programs an address into a device's non-volatile memory, then tests the device's functionality so the installer knows it works before installation. Detectors are programmed by dropping the head into the integral DB-11 base on the unit; other devices connect through the supplied programming cable. A backlit LCD and keypad walk the user through program and test menus that need little or no training, and the address auto-increments as devices are done, though any address can be entered manually. Before a device circuit is connected to the control panel, the loop can be run from the DPU to find ground faults and debug the circuit. The unit is supplied with NiMH rechargeable batteries and an AC power supply, a storage compartment for the programming cable, and a DB-3 base adapter for IL-series detectors on MXL systems.

Installation notes
-
Loop test needs AC power: the DPU will only perform the loop test on AC power because of the current draw — batteries alone will not run it.
-
Loop and ground-fault testing is FireFinder XLS only: the DPU is backward compatible with MXL devices for programming and testing via a menu selection, but it does not perform loop or ground-fault tests in MXL mode. That feature works only for the H-series of FireFinder XLS devices.
-
Switch off the charger for alkalines: the battery compartment contains a switch that disables the charging circuit when AA alkaline cells are fitted in place of the NiMH pack.
-
Label printing is an AC-powered accessory: the optional label printer prints loop-detector addresses automatically as devices are programmed, and runs on AC power. Enter a loop number at programming time if labels are being printed.
-
This is a bench tool, not a panel accessory: it programs and verifies devices prior to installation and is not part of the installed fire alarm system.
