NOTIFIER FS-OSI-RI — an intelligent addressable single-ended reflective imaging beam smoke detector, supplied with its reflector, UL listed.
The FS-OSI-RI is a reflector-type linear optical beam smoke detector suited to protecting large open areas with high ceilings where spot-type smoke detectors are difficult to install and maintain — warehouses, atriums, aircraft hangars, sporting arenas and concert halls. The beam operates primarily on the principle of light obscuration using infrared, and the detector is a combined transmitter/receiver, so only the head unit needs to be wired. Both the infrared transmitter and the CMOS imager sit in a movable “eyeball” lens assembly that swings 50° horizontally and 20° vertically; four LED directional arrows guide alignment, and when all arrows read green the lens is locked with a slide lever and secured under a paintable cover. The imager’s wide 12° field of view automatically tracks the reflector as the building moves, and optical filtering with high-speed image acquisition resists sunlight saturation and partial or sudden blockage by foreign objects. Sensitivity is set automatically at the optimum level based on the size of the reflector as measured in the field of view, and automatic drift compensation adjusts thresholds for long-term contamination of the optical surfaces. An imager heater is built in as standard to prevent condensation on the optical surface, and requires an external power supply.

Installation notes
-
Loop loading is the real design constraint: current draw limits the number of OSID-R detectors to up to 4 per loop on a dedicated circuit on NOTIFIER panels. Any non-beam devices, increased distances or higher gauge wiring on the circuit will decrease available current and total capacity.
-
Available SLC loop current: AFP-3030, N16, NFS-320, NFS2-640 and NFS2-3030 give 150 mA normal operating and 400 mA maximum; FireWarden-50X gives 100 mA normal and 200 mA maximum; FireWarden-100X gives 100 mA normal and 400 mA maximum.
-
Imager heater needs external power: the internal imager heater ships as standard but requires an external power supply. The reflector heater is a separate option (BEAMHKR), rated 15 to 32 V, 450 mA max at 32 V, 7.7 W @ 24 V and 15 W @ 32 V.
-
Spacing: on smooth ceilings, 30–60 feet between projected beams and not more than one-half that spacing between a projected beam and a sidewall. Other spacing may be used depending on ceiling height, airflow characteristics and response requirements — see NFPA 72 (S524 in Canada, AS 1670.1 in Australia).
-
Alignment: the eyeball aims without disturbing the detector mounting, so the mount can be fixed first. The lens locks with a slide lever, and the paintable front cover secures that lever in the locked position.
-
Temperature ratings differ: the UL listed operating range is 32°F to 100°F; the wider -4°F to 131°F figure is the application temperature range, not the listed range.
