NOTIFIER FPTI-951 — multi-criteria photoelectric, thermal and infrared smoke detector, FlashScan, UL listed, white. For ivory, order FPTI-951-IV (FlashScan and CLIP).
The FPTI-951 is a plug-in addressable multi-criteria detector that replaces the FAPT-851 Series, combining photoelectric, thermal and infrared (PTIR) sensors in one unit to sense multiple components of a fire. Photoelectric sensors detect airborne particles associated with smoke; thermal sensors detect heat and rate-of-rise with a 135°F fixed temperature threshold; and the infrared sensor discerns light patterns in the environment as an additional data point for alarm determination. Sophisticated algorithms combine the sensor types to give enhanced sensitivity to real fire with heightened immunity to nuisance particulates — the ability to reject triggers such as theatre smoke supports its use where moderate to heavy nuisance conditions would defeat a single-sensing detector. Because the detector meets both UL 268 7th edition and UL 521 requirements it can indicate distinct smoke and heat alarms, which supports a local alarm setting for photoelectric detection and a general evacuation setting based on thermal detection, minimising work interruptions in multi-level buildings.

Installation notes

Air velocity limit is low: the FPTI-951 is rated for 0 to 300 ft./min. (0 to 91.4 m/min.). That is a fraction of the 4000 ft./min. rating of the plain photoelectric FSP-951, so this detector is not a duct or high-airflow device — check the airflow at the intended location before specifying it.

Narrower temperature band: the operating range is 32°F to 100°F (0°C to 38°C), tighter than a plain photoelectric detector, because of the thermal element.

Two alarm types from one device: distinct smoke and heat alarms allow a local alarm on photoelectric detection and a general evacuation on thermal detection. That mapping has to be set up in panel programming; it is not automatic.

FlashScan versus CLIP: the white FPTI-951 is FlashScan only. The “-IV” suffix indicates support of FlashScan and CLIP and is the ivory finish — on this series the protocol choice and the colour are tied together.

Base sold separately: order a B300-6 flanged, B501 flangeless, B200S sounder, B224BI isolator or B224RB relay base to suit. ULC projects use the A-suffix base equivalents (B300A-6, B200SA-WH, B224BIA-WH, B224RBA-WH).

Nuisance-prone spaces: the rejection of triggers such as theatre smoke is the reason to choose this detector over a single-criteria photoelectric unit in kitchens, workshops, stages and similar areas.
