Edwards 4-PPS/M — a high-efficiency switch mode system power supply with local rail module, supplying 7 amps of filtered and regulated 24 VDC power plus temperature-compensated battery charging for EST3 and EST4 panels.
The 4-PPS/M is two assemblies: a switch mode power supply card and a power supply monitor module. The monitor module mounts to the local rail and distributes power from its supply onto that rail, which in turn shares power from all installed supplies across other local rail modules and user interface cards. The same catalog number can be configured as a primary power supply (PPS), a booster power supply (BPS), or a booster charger (BBC). Configuring supplies in parallel is what makes the platform efficient: four supplies in a single enclosure deliver up to 28 amps for rail modules, control display modules and the eight auxiliary 3.5 amp outputs, two per supply.
The charger is software-configured for either 10–24 AH or 30–65 AH batteries and adjusts high and low charge rates automatically from enclosure temperature, or from a probe in a remote battery cabinet. Batteries are automatically load tested by shutting down the charger and applying a load; a trouble is reported if voltage falls outside specification and clears if the battery recovers.

Note: the data sheet’s Total Output table splits values between “regulated applications” and “special applications” across merged columns that do not survive text extraction cleanly, so those per-mode internal and auxiliary DC figures are not reproduced here. Installation notes

Equipment damage warning — do not mix generations: the data sheet’s first power supply rule is that the 4-PPS/M must not be installed in the same cabinet as a 3-PPS/M, 3-BPS/M or 3-BBC/M. Combining the 4-PPS/M with legacy power supplies will cause damage to the power supply.

One charger per battery set: each battery set needs one charger, so the module count tracks the battery sets. The data sheet’s table pairs 7 A with one set (65 AH max) and one 4-PPS/M, 14 A with two identical sets and two modules, 21 A with three, and 28 A with four.

A conflict to be aware of: the Engineering Specification paragraph states that multiple power supplies must be capable of being backed up with a single 24 volt battery set, which does not agree with power supply rule 2 or with the combination table, both of which require one battery set per supply. Follow the power supply rules and the table for an installed design.

Battery wiring must be matched: each power supply must be connected to a battery set using an identical length and gauge of wire so that voltage drops are identical.

Battery sets must match each other: all battery sets for a panel must be the same capacity (AH), the same manufacturer, and the same manufacturing date code.

Distribute the load: power supplies and loads must be distributed evenly across rails.

Remote batteries need a distribution module: the 3-BTSEN is required when the battery is installed in a remote cabinet (3-BTSEN-E for the European marketplace).

Battery lead protection: battery leads are electronically short circuit protected. A short disables the charger and raises a trouble; the system watches for the short to clear and restores automatically.

Diagnostics: the LCD reports the power supply address, a specific trouble code and a plain-text message such as Battery Trouble, Aux Power Overload Circuit 1, or Aux Power Overload Circuit 2.
