SMCO600NV — First Alert SC5 Wireless Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm, a fully battery-powered combination smoke and CO alarm with voice alerts and wireless interconnect through the First Alert by Resideo app.
This is the battery version of the SC5. It has no AC connection: it is powered entirely by six 3V CR123A batteries and therefore continues to operate during a power outage, but it also cannot operate at all without working batteries. Because there is no interconnect wire, alarms are linked to one another wirelessly through the First Alert by Resideo app rather than through junction box wiring, which makes it suitable for retrofits where no interconnect conductor exists. Setup is started in the app before the alarm is mounted. Voice alerts announce the type of danger and the programmed location.

Installation notes
-
Battery power is the only power: removing the batteries for any reason, or failing to replace them at end of service life, removes your protection entirely. There is no AC feed to fall back on.
-
Set up before mounting: begin setup in the First Alert by Resideo app before the alarm is mounted.
-
Wireless interconnect needs range testing: install the alarms and test to confirm range and reliability of interconnection throughout the house. Floors, room count and size, furniture, building materials, suspended ceilings, ductwork, large metal appliances and metal studs can all reduce range; adding more alarms can route signals around obstructions.
-
Mixed AC and DC systems: if both AC and DC devices are present, press and release the test button on the AC device to test the interconnect feature across all devices.
-
Smart Interconnect scope: wireless Smart Interconnect works with other First Alert and BRK SC5 wireless smoke and CO alarms and with Google Nest Protect alarms. Alarms without the Smart Interconnect feature will remain silent during a CO alarm.
-
Initiating alarm identification: only the initiating alarm blinks its red LED halo; interconnected units sound but do not blink red.
-
Never remove batteries to stop a nuisance alarm: use the silence button and ventilate the area instead.
