Ansul 434909 (model K01-3) — Sentry K-GUARD wet chemical fire extinguisher, 6 litre (1.6 gal), rated 2-A:K.
A Class K extinguisher is not an upgraded ABC unit — it is a different chemistry for a different fire. Cooking oils and animal fats burn far above the auto-ignition point of the oil itself, and a dry chemical extinguisher can splash burning grease out of the vat instead of putting it out.
The K-GUARD discharges ANSULEX® Low pH agent as a fine, wide-angle mist. The agent saponifies the burning fat — converting it chemically into a soap-like foam blanket that seals the surface from oxygen while cooling the oil back below its auto-ignition temperature.

NFPA 96 requires a Class K extinguisher in commercial cooking areas with appliances that use vegetable or animal oils. It supplements the hood suppression system — it does not replace it.
